Did you know?

Onyx is the striped, semiprecious variety of agate with white and black alternating bands.  The name comes from the Greek onux, meaning ‘nail’ or ‘claw’, referring to the mineral’s colour.  

Onyx is considered to be a stone of courage, longevity, truth, protection, healing, strength giving and self-confidence! This stone promotes vigor, steadfastness and stamina.  Onyx aids learning, imparting self-confidence and helping you to be at ease with your surroundings and assists in keeping your own counsel.

Psychologically, Onyx anchors the flighty into a more stable way of life and generally imparts self-control.  Onyx is a mental tonic that is supposed to alleviate overwhelming fears and worries and support in times of enormous mental or physical stress.  Onyx jewellery is said to protect against those who play mind games and wearing it regularly will assist you in achieving a positive approach.  Also said to convey the invaluable gift of wise decisions.

Physically, Onyx improves cell regeneration, bone marrow, nails, hair, stamina, soft tissue and nausea.  It is also reputed to help those suffering from addictions; and it is said if you hide an Onyx stone in a teenager’s bedroom it will deter undesirable influences!! That depends on what you call an undesirable influence lol.
