Kyanite is an aluminium silicate mineral with an unusual hardness quality. Along the crystal axes, the hardness is 4-5. Across the axes, the hardness is 6-7. Kyanite has a triclinic crystal system. Kyanite was named in 1789 by Abraham Gottlieb Werner and derives from the Greek word ‘kuanos’, sometimes referred to as ‘kyanos’, meaning deep blue. Some say Archangel Michael’s sword is made of a blade of Kyanite, and whose sword is said to cut to the heart of the truth.

Psychologically, Kyanite encourages speaking ones truth, self-expression, communication; cutting through fears and blockages. It cuts through ignorance and opens to spiritual and psychological truth.
