Citrine is a silicon dioxide mineral and is a member of the Quartz family with a trigonal crystal system. The name Citrine comes from the French word ‘citron’, meaning lemon. Although often cut as a gemstone, Citrine is actually somewhat rare in nature. Most Citrines on the market have been heat treated. Specimens of low grade, inexpensive Amethyst or Smoky Quartz are often cooked at high temperatures to produce the more profitable orange yellow Citrine. Citrines whose colours have been produced by artificial means tend to have much more of an orange or reddish cast than those found in nature, which are usually a pale yellow.
Much of the natural Citrine may have started out as amethyst but heat from nearby magmatic bodies may have caused the change to Citrine.
Citrine is a joyful stone with energies of good fortune and good luck, though these may appear in unexpected ways. Citrine is called the “Success Stone” and is said to promote and manifest success and abundance in all areas, and in many ways. In addition to manifesting abundance, Citrine also brings energies of generosity so that the prosperity and success is shared.
Citrine is a fabulous stone to use to combat negative energy of any kind from the environment, whether it be home, office, car, or other space indoors or out. Family issues caused by negative energies can also be cleared for resolution with Citrine making it good for protection in general and helps bring stability.
Mentally, Citrine enhances mental clarity, confidence, will power and increased creativity and honesty. Since Citrine brings self-confidence as well as positive energy, it can also help eliminate fears of being judged or of others’ ideas. It is also used to dissipate fear of being alone or unworthy of love.
Citrine is a happy stone. It can bring happiness to the person who carries or wears it, as such it is said to relieve depression, self-doubt, anger, and irrational mood swings.
