morganite_nocaptionMorganite is a rare light pink to rose-coloured gem quality variety of Beryl.  Morganite is a beryllium aluminium silicate mineral with a hexagonal (trigonal) crystal system.  Its pink colour is caused by Manganese. Morganite was first mined in Madagascar in 1902 and was named after the financier and mineral collector J. P. On October 7, 1989, one of the largest gem Morganite specimens ever uncovered, eventually called “The Rose of Maine,” was found at the Bennett Quarry in Buckfield, Maine, USA. The crystal, originally was 23 cm (9 in) long and about 30 cm (12 in) across, and weighed just over 50 pounds (23 kg)!

Morganite has been adopted as a stone for lawyers to ensure fairness.
