Zircon is a zirconium silicate mineral with a tetrahedral crystal system and forma as prismatic crystals. Zircon crystals form in igneous rocks and some metamorphic rocks. Zircon is most famous for its colourless stones, which closely resemble diamonds in their fire and brilliancy and have been used both intentionally and mistakenly in their place. Although colourless the name Zircon comes from the Arabic zargun, which derives from the Persian for ‘gold colour.
