ObsidianOregonObsidian is a naturally occurring glassy, silica-rich volcanic rock with no regular crystal system. It is produced when felsic lava extruded from a volcano cools rapidly with minimum crystal growth. The name Obsidian is derived from the name of the prominent ancient Roman, Obsius, however, Obsidian has been used for making arrowheads and tools since Palaeolithic times. Pure obsidian is usually dark in appearance, though the colour varies depending on the presence of impurities. Iron and magnesium typically give the obsidian a dark brown to black colour.

Obsidian is a strongly protective stone, forming a shield against negativity from the environment, and strengthens in times of need.  Obsidian draws out mental tension, and may have a calming effect, but it can also bring up reasons for that stress. These reasons then have to be confronted before peace can be return; this resolves the problem permanently rather than having a palliative effect. This stone stimulates growth on all levels.  It urges exploration of the unknown, opening new horizons.
